This big, mountain-styled 2001 exhibits lots of structure, tannin, density and powerful flavors. Still youthful, vibrant and masculine, it needs 4-5 more years of cellaring and should last for 25-30+ years thereafter.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2021 - 98P:

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is flat-out stunning. That's the good news. The not so good news is that it remains very, very young! Apparently, the three years Randy Dunn gave the 2001 in barrel were not enough. Dark, powerful and brooding, the 2001 is an especially somber wine packed with dark fruit, gravel, spice and menthol accents. This is the sort of wine that make you hope actuarial tables are on your side! Quite frankly, the 2001 might need another decade to be at its best, but I am hopeful five might be enough. It is without question one of the wines of the vintage. Vineyard sources in 2001 were Trailer, Frank and Park Muscatine.

General Information:

Dunn Vineyards stands as an iconic Napa Valley winery, established in 1978 when Randy and Lori Dunn purchased a 14-acre parcel on Howell Mountain with 5 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon vines.
